Graeter's is Open!!!
After a year or two of not having a downtown location, Graeter's returns to Fountain Square. I was about to make a joke about how it is open just in time for winter, but it just doesn't work this year. The old location was about a block and a half away from the Square. I think the new location makes a lot of sense. I expect to see lots of cones next summer.
Though I generally don't have "special treats" at lunch, particularly when I'm alone (I usually wait until one of my wife and daughter's lunchtime visits), I couldn't let the grand opening go without celebration. So, after my veggie sub, I had a cup of my favorite, cookies'n'cream. Sorry, Caitlin. Perhaps next time.
We had a discussion on a neighbor's post about local chains. Cincinnati seems to be unique in having several local chains that have a devoted following among locals but are practically invisible outside of the area. Graeter's is perhaps the only one that really lives up to the hype, in my opinion. I can really only think of one ice cream that I might like better.
In any case, it is nice to have a good option for ice cream in the summer, and an alternative to Duncan Donuts for our Friday mornings.

Michael, I walked past that Graeter's on Friday night after my show (Which, of course, you should all come and see) and it is about the most nostalgic Graeter's I've seen-- it is warm and inviting and seems like it's right out of the early 20th century. I can't wait to grab a cone from there.
