Tri-Motor at Lunken
There has been an airplane lumbering around the Lunken area. It moved slow. On my bike, if, say, a Cessna were to fly across the road, it is usually only a second before it crosses from one field of view to another. This craft took a while.
I thought I recognized it as a Ford Tri-Motor, something I've only seen in pictures. we went down to Lunken today, where my suspicions were confirmed. It was a 1929 Tri-Motor, owned by the EAA. We showed up just as it was coming in for a landing.
This particular aircraft that Eastern Airlines used to get started. Over its career, it was the "Air Force One" for the Dominican Republic, a crop dustor, a smoke jump aircraft, and used in the Jerry Lewis movie, "The Family Jewels."
Lunken seems to attract a lot of unique aircraft. Getting to see something unique, like this Tri-Motor, is a great benefit of living near it.
