What's Up with the Weather?
This year has had a fair amount of extremes. We've had a number of fairly cold, snowy days this winter. Over the summer, the nineties set in, making me wonder if I actually left Louisiana. I think we broke a record for number of days over ninety for a year, one that was on the books for several decades.
The head continued into late September. Usually, by the time we get past the first week or so, nice fall weather has set in, making for great bike riding. This year, not so much.
At this point, the sun is setting right at 7 PM. This is a bit late for me to get a ride in, certainly not one of substance (>20 miles). Though I hate the darkness of winter, the fact that it is getting much colder as it gets darker helps take the sting out (I don't like riding in the cold, but I do do it).
However, here we are, mid-October, and our temperatures are at least five degrees warmer than average! Ideal temperatures, but it gets dark. I have lights, so I can get out. However, I feel like I'm looking part of my season.
I know global warming may be a factor in all this. However, I still hope that, in 2008, we return to something closer to the "normal" pattern.
