My daughter is at a birthday party in Mason, Ohio. While she has fun, I set up shop at a nearby Starbucks. A register Starbucks card with $5/month of activity covers my WiFi (I'm a frequent customer, so the WiFi is simply a perk with no extra effort).
My summer afternoon drink is a venti black iced tea sub raspberry (instead of the "basic" syrup). It procudes a nice, red drink that is quite tasty. Everyone comments on how good it looks, but no one ever seems to try it.
For the rigorous standardization, I've noticed each Starbucks takes on its own character, or at least seems to have its own core audience. I mostly frequent one in my office building. Downtown locations all seem to have business folks, most of whom are regulars who want to get in and get out. The staff is almost always fast and efficient. The Columbia-Tusculum shop was the site of my most expensive trip, due to the purchase of the work of a local artist. A trip to another location seemed to have a significantly older crowd.
Sunday afternoon in Mason seems to be soccer moms and teenagers. The mood is rather relazed. While I think they are doing a good job, there isn't the same weekday-morning urgency of downtown.
For about the past month or so, they've been selling a Talking Heads compilation called "Same as it Ever Was." I was a big Talking Heads fan in high school, so it's been a bit of a nostaligic treat to hear some of their music when I walk in, especially as it includes things that didn't hit the mainstream. I gave half a thought to buying a copy, with the cover photo being a retro shot of David Byrne and company. I flip it over, and discover that I already have most of the music.
Right now, it sounds like a reggea compilation. I'm not much of a reggea fan (though I love ska--go figure).
Anyway, I hope everyone else is having a mellow Memorial Day weekend Sunday.
About a year ago, the coffee place with the cool sign on Eastern went out of business. As I don't normally drive to work, I didn't go there too often. In the last couple of weeks, a new coffee place, Fuel, went in. As I had to drive to work today due to some after-work commitments, I stopped in and tried it.
The staff was very friendly (and excited about St. Patrick's day. The coffee is good (though I'm not fond of the lid to their cups).
On the way in to the office this morning, I stopped at Lookout Joe's for a cup of coffee. They were roasting some beans--it smelled wonderful!

What's your morning beverage of choice? Coffee, tea, juice? Homemade or store-bought?
I am a coffee drinker. On weekends, I grind beans I purchased (and were roasted) at Lookout Joe's, and brew my own.
During the week....well, I tend to go to Starbucks in my building. I do have a press pot here (for brewing my own, but I haven't used it in a while (and it's kinda scary inside).
